NISHIKORI, THE FIRST JAPANESE PLAYER AFTER 80 YEARS


Kei Nishikori became the first Japanese player in 80 years they are doing through the quarter-finals of the Australian Open on Monday (1/23/2012).

Nishikori, who is the tournament seeded 24, has played suicide bombers to get rid of the seeds of six years, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France. Nishikori won 2-6 6-2 6-1 2-6 6-3.


The last Japanese player to qualify for the Australian Open quarter-final Ryosuke Ninoi Satoh and Jiro did in 1932.

With this success, in the quarterfinals, Nishikori will face Andy Murray.
